Winter 5v5 League Format

Our indoor 5v5 format is designed to keep players involved in the game.

Format
  • 5v5

  • 6 teams per age group

  • Maximum roster: 9 players

  • Every team plays weekly

  • The smaller field and reduced number of players naturally create more involvement than traditional larger-sided soccer.

  • Players are constantly asked to attack, defend, transition, communicate and make decisions.

Game Format
  • Each league game includes:

  • Two 24-minute halves

  • 5-minute halftime

  • 48 minutes of total game time

  • The format provides meaningful playing time while maintaining the fast pace that makes small-sided soccer valuable for player development.

  • League Standings & Points

  • Standings are tracked throughout each 7-week session.

Points System

WIN — 3 POINTS

TIE — 1 POINT

LOSS — 0 POINTS

League standings determine each team's matchup during Finals Week.

Week 7: Finals Week

Every team plays during the final week.

Finals Week matchups are determined by the league standings:

1st vs. 2nd — Championship Match

3rd vs. 4th — Placement Match

5th vs. 6th — Placement Match

This means every team has a scheduled game during Finals Week while the top two teams compete for the division championship.

Championship awards will be presented to the winning team.

Why Play 5v5 Soccer?

Small-sided soccer creates an environment where players can't disappear from the game.

With fewer players on the field, each player is involved more frequently in attacking, defending and transitions.

The 5v5 format encourages:

  • More touches on the ball

  • More 1v1 situations

  • More passing opportunities

  • More attacking and defending

  • More transitions

  • More decision-making

  • More involvement for every player

  • For younger players especially, increased involvement can make winter 5v5 an excellent complement to traditional outdoor soccer training and competition.
