Friday nights are for soccer

Friday Night 5’s at Cherry Valley Sports is a weekly youth 5v5 soccer program in Nassau County, Long Island, built for players who want more opportunities to play the game.

Instead of another traditional training session, players step onto the field and play competitive small-sided soccer in a fast, high-involvement environment.

The concept is simple:

 

Show up. Play. Compete.

 

With smaller teams and fewer players on the field, 5v5 creates more touches, more 1v1 situations, more attacking and defending, and more decisions for every player.

Friday Night 5’s takes place indoors at Cherry Valley Sports in Garden City South, NY.

Friday Night 5’s Schedule

Friday Night 5’s is divided into two sessions based on age.

Session 1

6:00 PM – 7:15 PM

Birth Years:

2019 • 2018 • 2017 • 2016 • 2015

Session 2

7:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Birth Years:

2014 • 2013 • 2012 • 2011 • 2010 • 2009

Players should register for the appropriate age group through the Cherry Valley Sports app.

 

What Is Friday Night 5’s?

Friday Night 5’s gives youth soccer players an additional opportunity to play without turning Friday night into another structured team practice.

Players come to Cherry Valley Sports and compete in small-sided 5v5 games.

The smaller format keeps the game moving and puts players into situations where they have to constantly make decisions.

There is less standing around.

More involvement.

More opportunities to get on the ball.

And more opportunities to simply play soccer.

Why 5v5 Soccer?

Small-sided soccer naturally puts players closer to the action.

With fewer players sharing the field, each player becomes more involved in attacking, defending and transitions.

Friday Night 5’s creates opportunities for:

• More touches on the ball

• More 1v1 attacking and defending

• More passing combinations

• More shooting opportunities

• More transitions

• More decision-making

• More creativity

• More involvement in the game

Players have to solve problems themselves while the game is happening.

That's one of the biggest reasons small-sided soccer can be such a valuable complement to traditional team training.

Youth players already spend plenty of time at organized practices.

Friday Night 5’s is different.

The emphasis is on playing the game.

Players get an additional night of soccer where they can compete, experiment, make mistakes, try things and keep playing.

For players who love soccer and simply want more opportunities to get on the field, Friday Night 5’s provides exactly that.

Open to Players Across Long Island

Friday Night 5’s is designed to bring players together from throughout the local soccer community.

Players do not need to play for one particular club to participate.

Players from different travel teams, soccer clubs, academies and communities can share the field and compete together.

That creates a different experience from a normal team practice.

One week you may play alongside someone.

The next week you may play against them.

The focus stays where it belongs:

On the soccer.

Friday Night 5’s takes place at Cherry Valley Sports in Garden City South, New York, providing a convenient indoor soccer option for players throughout Nassau County and surrounding areas of Long Island.

Our facility is easily accessible for families coming from communities including:

Garden City, West Hempstead, Franklin Square, Hempstead, Mineola, New Hyde Park, Valley Stream, Rockville Centre, Malverne, Lynbrook, Floral Park, Elmont, Uniondale and surrounding Nassau County communities.

Players from elsewhere on Long Island are also welcome.

Friday Night 5’s is hosted indoors at Cherry Valley Sports, giving players a consistent place to play throughout the year.

Our indoor environment eliminates many of the problems associated with outdoor soccer:

No rainouts.

No freezing sidelines.

No muddy fields.

No darkness cutting the session short.

Players can focus on playing.

A Different Kind of Player Development

Not every part of player development needs to come from another drill.

Sometimes players need the game itself.

Small-sided games force players to constantly read what is happening around them.

Where is the space?

Can I beat the defender?

Should I pass or dribble?

Can we counterattack?

How quickly can I react after losing possession?

Those decisions happen repeatedly in 5v5 because players are continuously involved.

Friday Night 5’s gives players a place to develop those instincts through actual play.

This allows Cherry Valley Sports to organize games around players of appropriate ages while maintaining the fast-paced nature of the program.
